How this ranking works

A company counts towards a city once it has at least 8 live openings there, and cities are ordered by the number of live openings in that city alone — nothing else moves a city or a company up or down. A city needs 25 or more qualifying companies before it earns a page of its own; the rest publish their figures in the table above rather than as a thin page. Remote share here counts roles advertised as remote in that city, which is a different question from how remotely a company hires overall — that is the ReqHunt Remote Index ranking.

Where this data comes from

Every role counted here is read directly from an employer's own applicant tracking system — Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, SmartRecruiters and others — never from a job board or an aggregator feed. ReqHunt reads 8,301 company careers pages on an hourly cycle. A role is counted as live while it is still present on that employer's board; once it disappears from the board it is marked delisted and drops out of every figure on this page. Companies whose most recent posting anywhere is older than 90 days are excluded, so a dormant board cannot hold a position. City figures are recomputed hourly.

Frequently asked questions

Which US city has the most open tech jobs?

New York has the most live openings of the 26 US cities ReqHunt tracks, with 7,057 open roles across 200 employers, and Anthropic alone advertising 296 of them right now.

How many companies are hiring across these cities?

979 employer-city pairs clear the 8-role minimum across the 26 cities on this page, together advertising 22,205 live roles. They are drawn from the 8,301 companies whose careers pages ReqHunt reads directly.

How often is this data updated?

Every figure on this page is recomputed hourly from employer applicant tracking systems, and the 26 city rows were last rebuilt on 3 September 2026. The most recent posting counted anywhere in the index went live on 3 September 2026.

Why do some cities not have their own page?

A city needs at least 25 employers each with 8 or more live local openings, and 350 roles in total, before it gets a standalone ranking. 11 of the 26 tracked cities clear that bar today; the rest publish their numbers in the table above rather than as a thin page.
